Comet on course for Earth. Written in 1894 !
Could this be the first 'Earth destroyed by comet' book?
Set in 25th or 35th Century (translation error) the world faced destruction from space!
Of course TODAY we'd send manned or unmanned rockets, but the author didn't have that soultion.
In fact, there's hardly any technological advancement from the date of publication to the story setting 500 years or so in the future.
Yes, powered balloons and monkey butlers, but otherwise they barely had television!
I give it 4 stars for the fascinating illustrations.
(Yes, there is an illustration of a monkey with a feather duster on page 42.)
